In 2001, almost a million people of South Asian origin lived in Canada, representing about 3% of the total Canadian population. This report describes the basic social and economic characteristics of people in Canada who have an ethnic or cultural ancestry that originates in South Asia, including their population characteristics, family status, educational attainment, labour force experience and incomes. It is part of a series of profiles of the country's major non-European ethnic groups.
