2012 (Cycle 26), March 2012 to January 2013 - ARCHIVED
89M0031X2014001
The 2012 General Social Survey (GSS) was the sixth cycle to collect information on Canada’s family/friend caregivers and care receivers. Previous surveys on this topic were conducted in 1985, 1990, 1996, 2002 and 2007. The 2012 GSS collected data from persons aged 15 years and over living in private households in Canada, excluding residents of the Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut and full time residents of institutions.
In addition to content previously covered, the 2012 GSS included new questions on the type and severity of long-term health condition or disability individuals received or provided care for, accessible housing, and the consequences of caregiving on the lives of caregivers. Data were also collected on the respondents’ main activity, education, income and other socio demographic characteristics.
