This classification was approved as a departmental standard on October 23, 2009.

Borne no child(ren)
 
This category includes females aged 15 or over who have never given birth to a living child. Females in this category may have had stillborns or abortions or may have adopted. This category does not include females who have given birth to a child(ren) who has since died.

Borne child(ren)
 
This category includes females aged 15 or over who have given birth to a living child. It includes females who have given birth to a child who has since died. It does not include females who have had stillborns or abortions or who have adopted children unless they have also given birth to a living child.

(Borne) 1 child
 
This category includes females aged 15 or over who have given birth to one living child, only. It includes females whose one living child has since died. It does not include females who have had stillborns or abortions or who have adopted children unless they have also given birth to one living child.
 
2.2
(Borne) 2 children
 
This category includes females aged 15 or over who have given birth to two living children, only. It includes females who have given birth to two children, one or both of whom has since died. It does not include females who have had stillborns or abortions or who have adopted children unless they have also given birth to two living children.
