MAJOR RELEASES
  • General Social Survey: Internet use, 2000

An estimated 13 million people, or 53% of those aged 15 and over, used the Internet in 2000. A further 27% of non-users expressed an interest in becoming users. For lower-income non-users cost was the major barrier, while at the high end of the income scale the barrier was lack of time. Almost every teenager (9 out of 10) reported using the Internet at least once in the previous 12 months.
