Monday, August 27, 2001 For-hire trucking, commodity origin and destination2000 (preliminary)Canada-based long-distance for-hire carriers hauled more than 278 million metric tonnes of freight in 2000, an increase of 3.4% from 1999. Although domestic activities accounted for 73% of the total tonnage and 78% of the total shipments, transborder movements generated 47% of the total revenues earned and 49% of the total tonne-kilometres for these carriers. Preliminary data are now available from the For-hire trucking (Commodity Origin and Destination) Survey for all quarters of 2000. Available on CANSIM: table 4030001 and matrix 143. As of September 14, Daily releases will refer only to CANSIM II table numbers. CANSIM II contains more than 2 million data time series depicting economic and social conditions in Canada. Data are updated on the day that new values for these series are released.
