E-STAT: The ultimate interactive learning tool

The 2001 edition of E-STAT (http://estat.statcan.ca), Statistics Canada's free interactive learning tool, contains new features that make it even more user-friendly and versatile for students and teachers.

E-STAT 2001 combines a wealth of socio-economic data with a new dynamic multi-dimensional access that makes finding information easier than ever. It includes data from the 1996 Census and historical censuses, as well as the results of the 2000 federal election. E-STAT lets you bring data to life in colourful graphs and maps.

As well, text complements E-STAT's data. Students can access selected articles from Statistics Canada publications such as the Canada year book 2001, Canadian social trends, Health reports, the content of Human activity and the environment 2000 and the Graphical overview of the criminal justice indicators.

For the plugged-in teacher, E-STAT contains a host of curriculum-relevant activities developed by educators specifically for Grade 6 and up. Resources for Social Studies courses (/english/kits/introd.htm), organized by province, grade, and major topic, are linked to relevant data. Easy-to-use, incredibly thorough and dynamic, E-STAT is a stimulating teaching and learning resource that spurs students on to discover Canada - past, present, and even future!

Schools are invited to join the 6,000 Canadian educational institutions that already subscribe to E-STAT.

This tenth edition is now available on the Statistics Canada Learning Resources Web site (/edu/index-eng.htm). To obtain free access to the Internet version (10F0174XIB, free), schools should register now. Teachers and students can access E-STAT from home with a user identification and password.

For more information, visit http://estat.statcan.ca, or contact the education representative (/edu/edu01_0003-eng.htm) in your region. The E-STAT team can be reached directly (1-800-465-1222; e-stat@statcan.gc.ca).
