Tuesday, March 4, 2003 Help-wanted IndexFebruary 2003The Help-wanted Index (1996=100) was almost unchanged in February (-0.2%) at 111.4. The largest declines were in Quebec (-2.8%), Manitoba (-1.5%) and Prince Edward Island (-1.1%). Increases were recorded in New Brunswick (+2.4%) and Alberta (+0.9%). The index changed little in Ontario (-0.1%).
Note: The Help-wanted Index is compiled from the number of help-wanted ads published in 22 newspapers in 20 metropolitan areas and is considered an indicator of labour demand, measuring companies' intentions to hire new workers. The index has been seasonally adjusted and smoothed to ease month-to-month comparisons. Available on CANSIM: table 277-0002.
