Monday, July 7, 2003 For-hire motor carriers of freight, top carriersFirst quarter 2003The top 90 for-hire motor carriers of freight (Canada-based trucking companies earning $25 million or more annually) generated operating revenues of $1.93 billion and expenses of $1.84 billion in the first quarter. Average per-carrier revenue increased 0.5% from the first quarter of 2002, reaching $21.4 million. Average per-carrier expenses increased 0.6% to 20.4 million. The top for-hire carriers' operating ratio (operating expenses divided by operating revenues) was 0.95, similar to the first quarter of 2002.
