Thursday, February 5, 2004 Production and disposition of tobacco productsDecember 2003Total cigarettes sold in December by Canadian manufacturers decreased 9% from November to 3.1 billion cigarettes, and declined 13% from the level observed in December 2002. The cumulative total of cigarettes sold in 2003 reached 38.6 billion, down 5% from 2002. Cigarette production for December stood at 2.7 billion cigarettes, down 31% from November, and up 18% from the 2.2 billion cigarettes produced in December 2002. Cumulative production in 2003 was 37.9 billion cigarettes, down 8% from 2002. In December, the level of closing inventories was 3.4 billion cigarettes, down 7% from November and 20% from level recorded in December 2002. Available on CANSIM: table 303-0007.
