Wednesday, July 7, 2004 For-Hire Trucking (Commodity Origin and Destination) Survey2003 (preliminary)Tonnage carried by Canada-based long-distance for-hire carriers amounted to 305 million metric tonnes of freight in 2003, up 3.9% from 2002. Although domestic activities accounted for 72% of the total tonnage and 78% of the total shipments, transborder movements generated 48% of the total revenues earned and 52% of the total tonne-kilometres for these carriers. Preliminary data are now available from the For-Hire Trucking (Commodity Origin and Destination) Survey for 2003. Available on CANSIM: table 403-0001.
