Production and value of ranch-raised pelts

2003 (preliminary)

Ranchers who raise fox and mink enjoyed strong growth in sales in 2003. They sold $77.5 million in pelts, up 55.3% from 2002. The gain was partly caused by rising prices for pelts.

The number of ranch-raised pelts sold increased to levels not seen since the mid-1980s.

Available on CANSIM: tables 003-0014 and 003-0015.

Definitions, data sources and methods: survey number 3426.

The publication Fur Statistics, Vol. 2, no. 1 (23-013-XIE, free) is now available online. From the Our products and services page, under Browse our Internet publications, choose Free, then Agriculture.
