Canadian international merchandise trade, December 2007
Canada's merchandise trade surplus with the world shrank to its lowest level since November 1998, as merchandise exports declined and imports edged up in December. For 2007 as a whole, the trade surplus hit its lowest level since 1999.

Canada's cattle herd continued to decline in 2007, as exports to the United States accelerated. Meanwhile, Canadian hog inventories plunged during 2007 as a strong Canadian dollar and high feed costs challenged producers.
