October 2009

The October 2009 edition of Health Reports contains two articles.

"Diet composition and obesity among Canadian adults" shows that higher consumption of calories increased the odds of obesity, but the relative amounts of fats, carbohydrates and protein were generally not significant. For more information, contact Kellie Langlois (613-951-3806; kellie.langlois@statcan.gc.ca), Health Analysis Division, Statistics Canada.

"Risk factors and chronic conditions among Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal populations" compares several major risk factors and chronic conditions in Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal populations not living on reserves in the North (Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut) and in Southern Canada in 2000/2001 and 2005/2006. For more information, contact Lisa M. Lix (306-966-1617; lisa.lix@usask.ca), University of Saskatchewan.
