Population aging will present many challenges for Canada in the coming decades. But just how fast is population aging in Canada? How does Canada compare with other countries? What regions of the country had the oldest and youngest populations in 2011?

Results from the 2011 Census will provide answers to these questions and will also provide other valuable insights into the age and sex structure of the Canadian population, with the second release of the 2011 Census, on May 29, 2012.

A detailed analysis of the findings will be released in a full-colour report, The Canadian Population in 2011: Age and Sex, available on our website.

Two companion reports will examine the nation's centenarians and the various generations that make up the population, such as the baby boomers. A third companion report will outline the usefulness of the census as a planning tool at the local level.

All four reports will be available on our website at 8:30 a.m. Eastern time on May 29.
