Consulting Engineering Services Price Index, 2012

The Consulting Engineering Services Price Index (CESPI) increased 3.2% in 2012 compared with 2011.

Prices rose for 10 of the 11 engineering specializations covered by CESPI, led by pulp and paper (+9.7%), mining, metallurgy and primary metals (+6.3%) and other engineering services (+6.2%).

Prices of engineering services in foreign specialization (+5.6%) also contributed to the overall CESPI price change.

In the infrastructure and buildings engineering specializations, prices of municipal engineering services rose by 3.9%, while prices of transportation engineering services fell by 0.3%. Buildings engineering services saw prices edge up 0.1%.

The Consulting Engineering Services Price Index series is an annual survey of consulting engineers in Canada, collecting financial and wage information that is used to produce price indexes measuring changes in prices for consulting engineer services.

With each release, data for the previous year may have been revised. The indexes are not seasonally adjusted.

The second quarter 2013 issue of Capital Expenditure Price Statistics, Vol. 29, no. 2 (Catalogue number62-007-X), is available from the Browse by key resource module of our website under Publications. This is the last edition of the publication. In the future, all the information currently in the publication will be available free of charge on our website.
