Canadian pipelines received 31.6 million cubic metres of crude oil and condensates, and other liquefied petroleum products in May, up 0.6% from April and 12.0% higher compared with May 2013. The gain reflects the 5.0% average annual increase in net receipts from petroleum pipelines since 2010, which is in line with the 6.7% average annual increase in petroleum production over the same period.
By product, Canadian pipelines received 25.8 million cubic metres of crude oil and condensates as well as 5.8 million cubic metres of other liquefied petroleum products.
Consistent with the overall increased production and capacity, Canadian pipelines delivered 31.9 million cubic metres in May, up 2.4% from April and 13.4% above May 2013 levels. Total exports by pipeline to the United States were the largest delivery activity, rising 14.9% from May 2013 to 12.0 million cubic metres.
Note to readers
This report covers the monthly activities of all pipelines in Canada receiving and delivering crude oils, liquefied petroleum gases (propane, butane and ethane) and refined petroleum products. These data are required for integration into the input-output sector of the Canadian System of National Accounts. Data are also intended for use by survey respondents, industry associations, industry analysts, and the general public.
Oil pipelines receive products from fields, processing plants, refineries, other oil pipelines, imports, and other sources. They deliver these products to refineries, plants, other oil pipelines, exports, and other destinations.
