Supply and disposition of refined petroleum products, November 2015
8.5 million cubic metres
Refinery receipts decrease
Canadian refineries received 8.2 million cubic metres of crude oil in November, down 1.9% from the same month in 2014.
Over the same period, refinery receipts of domestic crude oil decreased 3.0% to 5.5 million cubic metres.
Crude oil imports increased 0.3% from November 2014 to 2.7 million cubic metres in November. Imports accounted for 33.4% of total crude oil received at refineries in Canada.
Crude oil held at refineries rose 27.3% to 4.2 million cubic metres in November.
Refinery production declines
Refinery production decreased 7.7% from November 2014 to 8.5 million cubic metres in November. The decline in net refinery production was led by diesel (-338 000 cubic metres) and motor gasoline (-176 000 cubic metres).
Lower imports and exports of refined petroleum products
Canada imported 1.2 million cubic metres of refined petroleum products in November, down 9.3% compared with the same month a year earlier.
Exports of refined petroleum products decreased 40.7% from November 2014 to 1.5 million cubic metres in November.
Inventories and sales down
Inventories held at refineries in November decreased by 16.0% from the same month a year earlier to 7.5 million cubic metres.
Domestic sales of refined petroleum products fell 3.2% from the same month in 2014 to 8.3 million cubic metres in November. This decrease was primarily attributable to a 7.9% drop in diesel fuel oil to 2.3 million cubic metres.
Note to readers
The Monthly Refined Petroleum Products survey collects data on the activities of every Canadian refinery involved in the production of refined petroleum products (North American Industry Classification System [NAICS] 324000) and of selected major distributors of these products (NAICS 412000).
Domestic sales include all sales by reporting companies, excluding exports and sales to other reporting companies.
Refinery receipts of crude oil and equivalent hydrocarbons (condensates and pentanes plus) from domestic and foreign sources are for refinery consumption or storage.
