Travel between Canada and other countries, December 2015

Canadian residents made 3.4 million trips to the United States in December, down 1.7% compared with November. The decrease was mainly attributable to a 2.0% decline in same-day car trips.

United States residents made 1.9 million trips to Canada in December, an increase of 1.4%.

Residents of overseas countries made 458,000 trips to Canada in December, down 1.2% from November.

Travel by Canadian residents to overseas countries increased 0.6% in December to 998,000 trips.

Overseas countries refer to countries other than the United States.

A Canadian resident traveller is a Canadian resident who has travelled outside of Canada for a period of less than 12 months.

A non-resident traveller is a resident of a country other than Canada who is travelling to Canada for a period of less than 12 months.
