The new Methodological Guide: Canadian System of Environmental-Economic Accounting is now available.

This guide provides an overview of the Canadian System of Environmental-Economic Accounting's data sources, methods and accounting framework. It also provides links to data and publications related to the Canadian System of Environmental-Economic Accounting.

This guide is part of Statistics Canada's initiative to provide data users with easy access to statistical concepts, sources and methods.

  Note to readers

The Methodological Guide: Canadian System of Environmental-Economic Accounting describes the links between economic activity and the environment in terms of:

  • Ecosystem accounting
  • Asset accounts (natural resources in physical and monetary terms)
  • Physical flow accounts (energy and water use, waste disposal, and greenhouse gas emissions)
  • Environmental activity statistics (expenditures on environmental protection)
  • The applications and extensions of those accounts (attribution of physical flows to final demand and intensity measures).

The Methodological Guide: Canadian System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (Catalogue number16-509-X) is now available from the Browse by key resource module of our website, under Publications. It can also be accessed from the Related information tab in the CANSIM tables included in the Canadian System of Environmental-Economic Accounting.

This publication will be updated to maintain its relevance. It replaces the publication Concepts, Sources and Methods of the Canadian System of Environmental and Resource Accounts (Econnexions series) (Catalogue number16-505-G).
