Real estate rental and leasing and property management industries, 2014

Real estate rental and leasing and property management industries generated $90.2 billion in operating revenue in 2014, up 4.0% from 2013. Operating expenses were $59.8 billion, a 3.3% gain over the previous year.

Ontario (39.2%) accounted for the largest share of operating revenue, followed by Quebec (21.3%), British Columbia (15.7%) and Alberta (14.7%).

The largest industry was non-residential leasing and rental. Operating revenue for this industry increased 2.9% to $46.6 billion in 2014. Ontario had the largest share of non-residential rental income at 41.1%, followed by Alberta (17.2%), Quebec (16.9%) and British Columbia (15.7%). Operating expenses rose 2.0% to $30.5 billion in 2014.

Operating revenue of businesses in the lessors of residential buildings and dwellings industry grew 5.5% to $37.5 billion in 2014. Ontario had the largest share of residential rental income at 36.3%, followed by Quebec (26.7%), British Columbia (15.8%) and Alberta (12.0%). Operating expenses for the industry increased 5.4% to $24.5 billion at the national level.

The real estate property management industry generated $6.0 billion in operating revenue, up 3.6% from 2013. This industry reported operating expenses of $4.8 billion, up 1.0% from the previous year.
