First-ever data are now available from the Investment Banking Services Price Index (IBSPI).

The purpose of the IBSPI is to collect and compile data to measure movements in the price of investment banking services in Canada. Prices are derived as the percentage commission charged on an investment banking transaction.

The IBSPI includes services which facilitate the issuance of debt and equity. The types of equity are split into corporate ownership, income trusts, preferred shares and structured funds. Debt is split between government and corporate debt. Government debt is excluded. This index will provide better estimates of real output, productivity and price change in financial services in Canada.

The IBSPI decreased by 0.9% in 2015 compared with a 3.5% increase in 2014.

With this release, annual data are available back to 2010.
