Architectural and landscape architectural services industries earned a combined operating revenue of $3.8 billion in 2015, up 2.5% from 2014. The operating expenses of these two industries increased 4.1% to $3.2 billion in 2015. This resulted in an operating profit margin of 15.3%, down from 16.6% in 2014.

Firms in Ontario generated 40.9% of the total operating revenue, followed by Quebec (20.0%), British Columbia (15.9%) and Alberta (14.5%). The other provinces and territories represented the remaining 8.7% of total operating revenue.

Architectural services accounted for 88.7% of the two industries' combined operating revenue and saw sales increase 2.5% from 2014 to $3.4 billion. The landscape architectural services industry accounted for the remaining 11.3%, and its operating revenue increased 2.8% to $428.7 million in 2015.

Salaries, wages, commissions and benefits totalled $1.6 billion in 2015, accounting for 48.1% of total operating expenses for the combined industries. Subcontracts were the next largest expense item, at 11.6%, down from 14.6% in 2014.

Most of the combined sales of the two industries was derived from non-residential building projects (55.0%), followed by residential building projects (19.4%). The remaining sales (25.5%) came from landscape architecture, urban planning and other related services.

In 2015, 51.1% of the combined industries' sales were made to business clients, followed by governments and public institutions (34.0%), individuals and households (11.1%), and clients outside Canada (3.8%).
