Federal Patents, Licences and Royalties Survey, 2015/2016
Total income received from the commercialization of intellectual property activities by federal government departments and agencies decreased 1.5% from 2013/2014 to $31.8 million in 2015/2016.
The total number of patents rose 58.8% to 2,948, while the number of patents pending fell 59.4% compared with 2013/2014. Meanwhile, the total number of these patents licenced, assigned or otherwise commercialized increased from 141 in 2013/2014 to 237 in 2015/2016.

The survey provides information on the activities of federal government science-based departments and agencies related to new instances of intellectual property reported or disclosed, number of patents, new and active licences and income received from intellectual property commercialization.
