Computer and peripherals price indexes, February 2017

The price of desktop and similar computers, laptop and tablet computers, and servers increased 0.1% in February, as a result of higher prices for laptop computers (+0.8%).

The increase of the index was moderated by lower prices for desktop and similar computers (-0.8%), servers (-0.7%) and tablet computers (-0.3%).

Prices for smartphones increased 0.2% in February.

The price for computer monitors and computer printers decreased 0.4%, as a result of lower prices for computer printers (-0.3%) and computer monitors (-1.3%).

Year over year, prices for desktop and similar computers, laptop and tablet computers, and servers declined 2.6%. Prices for computer monitors and computer printers were down 0.1%.

  Note to readers

The computer and peripherals price indexes are monthly series that measure the changes over time in the price of computers, computer peripherals and smartphones sold to governments, businesses and households. With each release, data for the previous six months may have been revised. The indexes are not seasonally adjusted.

These indexes are available at the Canada level only.

The Computer and Peripherals Price Index is subject to a six-month revision period after dissemination of a given month's data. In addition to the regular revisions, desktop and similar computers, laptop and tablet computers, and servers (v108788736), tablet computers (v108788743) and tablet computers, business and governments (v108788744) were revised back to January 2015.
