Keeping track of Canada's employment numbers is pretty much a full-time job. But it's one that is about to get easier, thanks to a new and improved tracking tool.

This month's edition of the StatCan Blog, "A new way to track the job market!," talks about the agency's new Labour Market Indicators (LMI) application. Gone is the LMI Desktop App. In its place, Statistics Canada has rolled out a new web-based dashboard that will provide users with easy access to the monthly numbers on the labour market—employment, unemployment and labour force participation rate.

The new dashboard is both interactive and customizable, allowing users to track these key data at the national, provincial or census metropolitan area level.

The LMI dashboard is part of Statistics Canada's ongoing efforts to make data more accessible, an area in which the agency has already been recognized as a world leader. In addition, the new dashboard's indicators are just the beginning; in the months ahead, new information from other labour surveys will be added to the application.
