The Consulting Services Price Index (COSPI) decreased 1.0% in the first quarter following a 1.9% gain in the fourth quarter of 2016. This was the first drop in prices for the consulting services industry following three consecutive quarterly price increases.
Prices for management consulting services, the largest component of the COSPI, decreased 0.4% in the first quarter, while the price index for environmental, scientific and technical consulting services fell 3.5%.
Year-over-year change
Year over year, the aggregate COSPI rose 2.4% on higher prices for management consulting services (+3.0%), while prices for environmental, scientific and technical consulting services decreased 0.9%.

The Consulting Services Price Index is a quarterly survey that collects information on the prices of various types of consulting services, such as management, environmental, scientific and technical consulting services.
With each release, data for the previous quarter may have been revised. Data are also subject to an annual revision with the release of second quarter data of the following reference year. The index is not seasonally adjusted. Data are available at the Canada level only.
