The six Canadian Level I air carriers flew 6.7 million passengers on scheduled and charter services in June, up 9.2% from June 2016.
Traffic increased 9.5% to 17.9 billion passenger-kilometres, while capacity rose 8.8% to 21.7 billion available seat-kilometres. This resulted in a slightly higher passenger load factor in June 2017 (82.5%) than in June 2016 (82.0%), as the increase in demand for travel was stronger than the rise in capacity.
The volume of turbo fuel consumed rose 8.6% to 663.1 million litres, while the number of flying hours increased 8.3% to 183,000.
Total operating revenue increased 10.1% from the same month a year earlier to $1.9 billion in June.

Data in this monthly release are not seasonally adjusted.
Data for January to May 2017 have been revised.
Beginning with the reference month January 2017, the Monthly Civil Aviation Survey is produced using Statistics Canada's Integrated Business Statistics Program (IBSP). Detailed information about the IBSP is available from the Behind the data module of our website.
Changes were made to the collection method, questionnaire content, imputation and estimation, therefore users should exercise caution when comparing actual data to historical data prior to January 2017.
