Refinery receipts of crude oil, production of refined petroleum products and domestic sales of refined petroleum products were all up in July compared with the same month in 2016.
Refinery receipts up
Canadian refineries received 9.3 million cubic metres of crude oil in July, up 6.6% from the same month a year earlier.

Domestic crude oil receipts were up 16.8% from July 2016 to 6.1 million cubic metres.
Crude oil imports decreased 8.6% from July 2016 to 3.2 million cubic metres. Imports represented 34.4% of total crude oil received at refineries in Canada.
Crude oil inventories held at refineries totalled 4.2 million cubic metres in July, up 8.5% from the same month in 2016.
Refinery production and sales rise
Refinery production increased 1.5% from July 2016 to 10.2 million cubic metres.
Domestic sales of refined petroleum products rose 2.8% to 9.7 million cubic metres. Sales of motor gasoline were stable, while sales of diesel fuel oil were up 14.6% compared with July 2016.

Imports down while exports increase
Canada imported 1.5 million cubic metres of refined petroleum products in July, down 22.4% from the same month in 2016. Meanwhile, exports of refined petroleum products increased 14.4% to 2.6 million cubic metres.
Inventories rise
Closing inventories of refined petroleum products held at refineries increased 0.9% year over year to 7.7 million cubic metres in July.
Note to readers
The Monthly Refined Petroleum Products survey collects data on the activities of every Canadian refinery involved in the production of refined petroleum products (North American Industry Classification System [NAICS] 324000) and of selected major distributors of these products (NAICS 412000).
Domestic sales include all sales by reporting companies, excluding exports and sales to other reporting companies.
Refinery receipts of crude oil and equivalent hydrocarbons (condensates and pentanes plus) from domestic and foreign sources are for refinery consumption or storage.
Data for February, March, and June 2017 have been revised.
