Sales at food services and drinking places up from last year
The figures in this section are based on unadjusted (that is, not seasonally adjusted) estimates.
Sales in the food services and drinking places subsector were up 5.1% in the 10 months to October compared with the same period in 2016. Canada 150 celebrations and higher prices for food purchased from restaurants likely contributed to higher receipts in each subsector. Year-to-date sales were up at limited service eating places (+5.6%), full service restaurants (+5.7%) and at the special food services industry group (+2.3%), but were down at drinking places (-0.5%).
