The Commercial and Industrial Machinery and Equipment Rental and Leasing Services Price Index was unchanged in the fourth quarter, following a 0.2% decline in the third quarter.
Lower rental prices of construction, transportation, mining and forestry machinery and equipment (-0.1%) were offset by an increase in rental prices of office and other commercial and industrial machinery and equipment.
Year-over-year change
The index fell 0.1% in the fourth quarter compared with the same quarter in 2016.
The decrease was driven by lower rental prices of construction, transportation, mining and forestry machinery and equipment (-0.8%). Office and other commercial and industrial machinery and equipment rental prices rose 2.0%, moderating the annual decline.

The Commercial and Industrial Machinery and Equipment Rental and Leasing Services Price Index (CIMERLSPI) measures price changes of rental and leasing activities for the commercial and industrial machinery and equipment industry.
Data are available at the Canada level only.
With each release, data for the previous quarter may have been revised. The series are also subject to an annual revision with the release of second quarter data of the following reference year. The index is not seasonally adjusted.
The CIMERLSPI combines the North American Industry Classification System codes 53242 and 53249.
