Stocks of frozen poultry meat in cold storage increased 12.4% from May 1, 2017, to 87 827 tonnes on May 1, 2018.
In April, placements of hatchery chicks on farms increased 2.3% compared with April 2017 to 67.1 million birds.
Egg production rose 3.1% from March 2017 to 65.6 million dozen in March.
Annual
Egg production totalled 774.5 million dozen in 2017, up 3.8% from 2016. The value of egg sales increased 4.6% to $1.4 billion.
Canadian farmers produced 1.4 million tonnes of poultry meat in 2017, up 3.3% from 2016, the eighth consecutive year-over-year increase. Chicken, including stewing hens, accounted for 87.8% of all poultry meat produced. Turkey production declined 6.6% from a year earlier to 171 217 tonnes in 2017. Sales of poultry meat, including turkey, increased 1.8% to $2.9 billion.

Revisions
Weekly and Monthly data of poultry and egg have been revised back to January 2015. This is the result of revisions to administrative data and survey data.
Following the release of 2016 Census of Agriculture data in May 2017, intercensal revisions to the annual poultry data for years 2012 to 2016 are now reflected in CANSIM.
