The International Statistical Literacy Project (ISLP) Poster Competition makes statistical learning and data management relevant and engaging to students.

Students chose a research question which related to the environment, collected and analysed data, then displayed their results as a poster or PowerPoint presentation. Besides celebrating and exhibiting their work at school, they also participated in an international statistical poster competition.

Teams were registered in November, 2010. Their posters were judged at the school and local levels in March, 2011, then nationally in May, 2011.

By taking part in this competition, students learned to:

  • work as a team
  • investigate questions on the environment using real data
  • interpret statistical results
  • use calculation and graphical skills
  • develop communication skills

They also had the chance of winning prizes including cash!

Teams of 2 to 3 students were registered in two categories:

  • born in 1995 and later
  • born in 1992, 1993 and 1994
