OTTAWA — Statistics Canada is pleased to announce that collection for the 2016 Census is almost here, with collection beginning in May across Canada.

In early May, Canadians will be receiving their census letter in the mail with instructions on how to conveniently complete their questionnaire online. A toll-free number will also be included for respondents who would prefer to request a paper questionnaire.

Census information is important for communities across Canada and is used in planning services such as child care, schooling, public transportation, housing, skills training for employment, and police and fire services.

Census data are also used in making decisions—for communities, provinces and territories, and the country as a whole. Watch for the census letter in the mail in early May.

More information on the 2016 Census can be found on the census website.
