Canada 150

This year, Statistics Canada is joining other Government of Canada institutions to mark the 150th anniversary of Confederation.

To celebrate, we will be telling Canada's story in numbers, and there is quite a story to tell! From the Canada Year Book, first published in 1867, to releases in The Daily, Statistics Canada's data have chronicled the lives of Canadians throughout our history.

So, what is the agency bringing to the party?

2016 was a year of statistical highs at Canada's national statistical organization.

The census was received with great enthusiasm, with Canadians filling it out at an unprecedented rate.

With the arrival of a wave of refugees early in the year, Canada received the largest volume of new immigrants for one quarter, according to the agency's population estimates.

Canada has a new chief statistician.

In September, Anil Arora was appointed as the agency's 12th chief statistician.
