Statistics Canada is using Twitter as a communications tool and outreach channel to reach and engage with Canadians.
Statistics Canada does not endorse any of the views expressed in tweets posted by users, and in no way verifies or confirms the accuracy of those tweets. Tweets that violate Rules of engagement may result in the user being blocked from the account.
Statistics Canada has two Twitter accounts, one for each official language:
By following Statistics Canada on Twitter, what you get includes:
- the latest releases from The Daily
- interesting facts on various aspects of Canada
- information on survey and census collection activities
- information on new products and services
- information about recruitment at Statistics Canada
- announcements on new website features
- and much more...
Statistics Canada recognizes that the Internet is a 24/7 medium, and your tweets, direct messages and @Replies are welcome at any time. However, posting and moderating will occur during regular office hours, Monday to Friday. Messages posted after business hours or on weekends and statutory holidays will be read as early as possible.
Twitter may occasionally be unavailable. Statistics Canada is not responsible for a lack of service caused by Twitter downtime.
The number of tweets posted each business day will vary and may depend, for example, on the number of articles and publications that are being released.
Statistics Canada may retweet information posted on the official Twitter accounts of other Government of Canada institutions and other statistical organizations when that information is deemed relevant to Statistics Canada's mandate and followers. The decision to retweet a particular message does not imply endorsement of any kind.
Messages and @Replies
Statistics Canada welcomes feedback and ideas that are constructive and relevant from its followers. All messages and @Replies will be read and any emerging themes or helpful suggestions will be passed to the appropriate people in the organization.
However, we may not be able to respond to all individual messages. They will be handled on a case-by-case basis. For general enquiries about Statistics Canada products and services, contact us.
Statistics Canada's decision to follow a particular Twitter account does not imply endorsement of any kind. Similarly, the appearance of a Twitter user as a follower of a Statistics Canada account does not imply endorsement. Statistics Canada will only follow the accounts of other Government of Canada institutions and other statistical organizations publishing information that is relevant to its mandate.
Links to other websites
Tweets posted on Statistics Canada's Twitter accounts may include, for your convenience, links to websites that are not under the responsibility of Statistics Canada or the Government of Canada. Since many of these websites are not subject to the Official Languages Act, they may not be available in both official languages. Statistics Canada is not responsible for the accuracy, currency or reliability of the content, and is not endorsing the sites and their content in any way.
Statistics Canada, as part of the Government of Canada, is committed to achieving a high standard of accessibility. Twitter is a third-party service provider and is therefore not bound by the Government of Canada policies for web accessibility.
If you have any problems accessing the information on our Twitter accounts, contact us to receive the information in an appropriate format. Statistics Canada respects the Official Languages Act and is committed to ensuring that information products of equal quality are available in both English and French.
Tweets will be posted simultaneously in both official languages—in English on the @StatCan_eng account and in French on the @StatCan_fra account. Messages and @Replies that require a response will be answered in the official language of origin.
Tweets or retweets from Statistics Canada may include links to websites that are not subject to the Official Languages Act, which means they may not be available in English and French. Links leading to unilingual content will always include the mention '(English only)' or '(français seulement).' These links are provided solely for your convenience and Statistics Canada is not responsible for the information found through them.
