  • Articles and reports: 82-003-X202000300002
Description: The purpose of this study was to assess the risk of non accidental and cause specific mortality associated with long term exposure to PM2.5 among immigrants after they arrived in Canada, and to assess how this risk compares with that of the non immigrant population. Using the Canadian Census Health and Environment Cohort, this study also sought to determine the influence of several immigrant specific variables on the PM2.5 -mortality association, including duration in Canada, country of birth, age at immigration and neighbourhood ethnic concentration.

  • Articles and reports: 11-621-M2019004
    Description:

Legalization of cannabis production, sale, and use in Canada on October 17, 2018 serves as the context for the implementation of the largest wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) pilot test conducted to date in North America (covering 8.4 million people) and the first by a national statistical agency. Wastewater samples were collected in five large urban centres across Canada over the period March 2018 to February 2019. In addition to presenting the results by month and by city for certain drugs, this document presents preliminary estimates of total use of cannabis, methamphetamine, and cocaine.

    Description:

The 2014 article “Agriculture in Canada” gathers together a variety of statistics describing agriculture from the perspective of ecosystem goods and services.

The article addresses the ecological infrastructure supporting agricultural activity (Section 2), ecosystem goods and services from agriculture (Section 3), the main beneficiaries of these goods and services (Section 4) and the environmental impacts and management activities associated with agriculture (Section 5). Section 6 provides an example to illustrate how agricultural information can be integrated into a system of environmental accounts that follow international guidelines being developed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Section 7 concludes with a short listing of areas requiring further research.

  • Articles and reports: 11F0019M2019013
Description: The need to measure both the desirable outputs (goods and services) and the undesirable outputs (emissions of greenhouse gases [GHGs] and criteria air contaminants [CACs]) from economic activity is becoming increasingly important as economic performance and environmental performance become ever more intertwined. Standard measures of multifactor productivity (MFP) growth provide insights into rising standards of living and the performance of economies, but they may be misleading if only desirable outputs are considered. This study presents estimates of environmentally adjusted multifactor productivity (EAMFP) growth using a new comprehensive database. This database contains information on GHG and CAC emissions, as well as on the production activities of Canadian manufacturers.
