    Description:

The RCMP Public Complaints Commission Survey was conducted by the Special Surveys Division of Statistics Canada on behalf of the RCMP Public Complaints Commission (PCC). The purpose of the survey was to obtain some measure of the quality of service provided by the Public Complaints Commission during the review process. Two questionnaires were used, one for complainants and one for members involved in complaints in order to obtain both perspectives. The information collected in the two surveys will be used as a tool to guide the Commission in assessing their total quality service. This report summarizes the findings of the survey.

Data collection took place from January to May, 1995 and, due to the relatively small target population, took the form of a self-administered census type survey using a mail-out/mail-back questionnaire. Questions were geared towards collecting information about satisfaction and knowledge of the Receipt and Review Process for complainants and for RCMP members. The response rate achieved for complainants was 62%, and for members it was 71%.
