Disability prevalence was established for each of the three Indigenous groups based on the Disability Screening Questions (DSQ), included in the APS for the first time in 2017. The study also uses data from the 2017 Canadian Survey on Disability (CSD), this data source is used to establish disability rates for the non-Indigenous population, to help contextualize findings for First Nations people living off reserve, Métis and Inuit.
