Provincial showdown
Process

  1. Choose the province or territory that your team will represent. Determine what kinds of information would assist your team in making the best possible selection. To help you begin your search, we've provided some direct links to the Summary tables on the Statistics Canada website.

You should consider the following areas:

    1. Economic conditions
    2. Population and labour
    3. Education
    4. Crime and justice

See also the overviews from the most recent Canada Year Book on these areas.

You will find the following general information links helpful to expand your information search:

    • Community Profiles place name search
    • The official websites of the provinces and territories are another source of information and data. You can find a link to these on the Provincial showdown home page. Just press on the flag of the province or territory you want to research.

You can also search for information under the following headings:

    • property tax rates
    • supply of electricity
    • export
    • national parks
    • recreation facilities
    • health/medical service
  2. Determine how to organize this information in the most logical way.
  3. Establish a project management schedule for your group.
  4. Establish the criteria that you will use to decide the value of the sources you find.
  5. Survey as wide a variety of sources as possible.
  6. Keep a research log in which you record all sources found. Remember to carefully record the sources of ideas as you must acknowledge these in your final product.
  7. Select and create appropriate visuals, animations, sound clips, videos and simulations to include in your final presentation.
