Instructions for accessing E-STAT

Finding the right table using Search Censuses

  • In E-STAT, select Search Censuses in E-STAT.
  • Under Select a Census, select 2006 Census (the default selection) and click the Go! button.
  • Under 2006 Census, select  2006 Census of Population (48 Census Metropolitan Areas and Census Tracts) and click the Go! button.
  • Under Profile selection, select 2006 Cumulative Profile and click the Go! button.

Geography and characteristics selection

  • Under Step 1: Select a geographic region,:  select 2006 – Vancouver (410 areas).
  • Under Step 2: Select one or more characteristics select the following characteristics:

(Hint: Since the list of Characteristics is very long, you may wish to use the View checklist. The list of Characteristics becomes a searchable text version of the Selection list. You can now use the Find function under the Edit menu from your Browser to find and mark the following. When your selection is finished, click on Back to Main Selection Form button at the bottom.)

Under the heading Population and dwelling counts:

  • Population, 2006 - 100% Data

Under the heading Age and sex:

  • 0-4, Male population
  • 5-9, Male population
  • 10-14, Male population
  • 15-19, Male population
  • 20-24, Male population
  • 24-29, Male population
  • 30-34, Male population
  • 35-39, Male population
  • 40-44, Male population
  • 45-49, Male population
  • 50-54, Male population
  • 55-59, Male population
  • 60-64, Male population
  • 65-69, Male population
  • 70-74, Male population
  • 75-79, Male population
  • 80-84, Male population
  • 85+ Male population
  • Select the female populations by the same age groups

Under the heading Housing:

  • Total number of occupied private dwellings - 20% sample data
  • Major repairs, occupied private dwellings by condition of dwelling
  • Period of construction, before 1946, occupied private dwellings
  • Period of construction, 1946 to 1960, occupied private dwellings
  • Period of construction, 1961 to 1970, occupied private dwellings
  • Period of construction, 1971 to 1980, occupied private dwellings
  • Period of construction, 1981 to 1985, occupied private dwellings
  • Period of construction, 1986 to 1990, occupied private dwellings
  • Period of construction, 1991 to 1995, occupied private dwellings
  • Period of construction, 1996 to 2000, occupied private dwellings
  • Period of construction, 2001 to 2006, occupied private dwellings

Under the heading Education:

  • No certificate, diploma or degree, population 25 to 64 years by highest certificate, diploma or degree
  • High school certificate or equivalent, population 25 to 64 years by highest certificate, diploma or degree
  • Apprenticeship or trades certificate or diploma, population 25 to 64 years by highest certificate, diploma or degree
  • University certificate, diploma or degree, population 25 to 64 years by highest certificate, diploma or degree

Under the heading Income and earnings:

  • Average family income $
  • After selecting your characteristics, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on 'Return to selection page'

Choosing an output format

  • Click on HTML Table (geography=rows)
  • At the bottom of the page, click on the button 'Reduce or sort geo list'.
  • Click on your desired geography from the drop down list. In this example, we will click on Census tract number 0032.00 (9330032.00). Scroll down and click Go.
  • View all your data in this table. You can go back to the previous page and select an output file format to download to a spreadsheet programme. Or you can go back and use the 'Reduce Characteristics List' button to create graphs of different characteristics. For example, select the four education level characteristics and choose 'Bar graph' as a screen output.
