A. Finding data of interest:

  1. Examine the Canada at a Glance booklet or see its online version.
    (From Learning resources, under Quick links, click on Canada at a Glance and follow instructions to view online.)
  2. Look at the table of contents on the first page (or in the left-hand navigation bar of the online version) and write down three subjects that interest you.

  3. For one of the subjects you have identified, select one table of data.
    1. Prepare a graph or chart (line, bar, pie) that illustrates these data visually for the major categories. Try the on-line graphing tool in Statistics: Power from Data!

    2. Explain why the type of graph you used is the most appropriate method for displaying data.

    3. Describe in words the highlights or trends in the data.
    4. Predict how the data will change over the next 10 years.

  1. What are the 5 most frequent types of crime?
  2. What type of crime has increased the most in the last time period?
  3. What percent of the total criminal code offences are:
    1. homicides?
    2. assault?
    3. break and enters?

C. Bonus activity
