How Well Do You Know Canada?

Overview

A 42 question quiz, encourages intermediate and senior students to practice their reading and research skills. Designed to encourage an active exploration of the 1999 Canada Year Book, students use various parts of a book (ie. glossary, appendix, illustration lists) to answer questions or confirm their guesses.

  1. A student worksheet "How well do you know Canada?"
  2. The Canada Year Book 1999

Classroom Instruction

  1. Distribute copies of the quiz to your students. Spend a few minutes discussing the use of reference materials for research purposes and identify the various parts of a book.
  2. Ask questions to review terminology and discuss the issue (maybe ask them for educated guesses for a few questions.)
  3. Optional - ask students to hand in their completed sheets for evaluation.

Evaluation

  1. Have students' hand in their worksheet for grading. (Marking Guide)

Enrichment

This activity can be an assignment to improve students' telecommunications skills. If the exercise is done on the computer, students' will learn computer navigation skills such as typing the URL, printing and possibly downloading the exercise from the internet.
