Determine with your teacher the natural or primary resource industries and relevant ecozones that will comprise your assignment.
For each natural or primary resource industry assigned, prepare notes to answer the following questions:
What is the relationship between the ecozone and the industry found there (landforms, altitude, soil, vegetation, climate)?
Are there any sustainable development or environmental issues related to accessing this resource? Explain their impact.
How can these issues be resolved?
What is the economic importance of this resource to Canadians?
What are the employment statistics for this resource industry over the past 10 years?
How are the population patterns affected by this resource industry (10-year period)?
For each natural or primary resource industry assigned, prepare visuals of graphs, maps, and illustrations. Create these visuals from your notes about the data in the Canada Year Book 1999 (chapters 1, 2 and 10) and from other sources.
Prepare a feature article on the natural resource in your ecozone for a local newspaper (see listing for the daily newspapers in Canada).
