1. Who is responsible for waste management services?
2. What are the three ways local-level waste services are funded?
3. Answer the following questions, by examining Figure 3.1:
   1. What province diverted the highest percent of its waste?
   2. What two provinces diverted the lowest percent of their waste?
   3. Do you notice any trends? Explain.

   Questions 4-6 can be answered using the "Programs and approaches to reduce waste disposal" section of the article (pgs.17-19).

4. How are municipalities encouraging their citizens to produce less waste?
5. Does this work? Explain and support your answer.
6. What are user-pay programs? Do these systems help limit waste disposal? Explain your answer.
7. Based on Text Box 3.1, what are some notable waste management programs in Canada, and why have they been successful?
8. Read Text Box 3.2. What is E-Waste? How has your household contributed to E-Waste?
9. Read section 3.2. What is extended producer responsibility (EPR)? Give two examples of how EPR programs have reduced waste.

   Questions 10-12 can be supported using sections 3.3-3.5 (pgs. 25-26).

10. Do you believe that waste generation is a problem in Canada? Support your answer.
11. Who should take responsibility for minimizing waste (ie. governments, producers, consumers)? Explain your answer.
12. Brainstorm ten ways in which your household could limit its waste generation. (Be prepared to participate in a classroom discussion based on questions 10-12.)
