(Measuring the environmental impacts)

Let's extract some data from Section 1.2, Transportation's environmental impacts.

Find 1.2.2, Living in a greenhouse (page 15). In the online version, scroll down about one third of the page. This section is located just above Text table 1.5.

There is a lot to digest here, so to help you sort out what we will want to remember, fill in the information below:

  • (1-----) occurring greenhouse gases help regulate the planet's climate by trapping solar energy which warms the earth's surface.

  • In 2004, transportation accounted for (2-----)% of total greenhouse gas emissions.

  • From 1990 to 2004, these transportation emissions rose (3-----)%, or almost (4-----) megatonnes. Our (5-----) was the main factor.

  • SUVs, pickups and vans have grown in popularity. From 2000 to 2005, the fleet of light automobiles (6-----) by 1%, while the number of light trucks (7-----) 26%. In 2005, average fuel efficiency for cars was (8-----) L/100 km; (9-----) L/100km for pickups, and (10-----) L/100 km for vans.
