Statistical Research

Population of Canada
You are employees of Statistics Canada charged with researching and compiling charts and graphs of statistics on the population of Canada. Your specific area of investigation will be chosen and presented to the class by you and your partner.
Methods of Research:
Choose a general topic and sub-topic from the Population: Topic Selection Sheet.
Have your choice of topic and sub-topic approved by your teacher.
Examine resources recommended by the teacher-librarian.
(a) Find a statistical table that relates to your topic and display on two charts (bar, pie, pyramid, line)
OR:
(b) Find an existing graph and convert to another type of chart and a statistical table.
Note the trend, if any, and predict where it is likely to go.
If appropriate to your topic, please include the implications of the '96 population projections found in Canadian Social Trends, Autumn 1996.
Visual products are to be done on bristol board and are due on ________________________
The visual presentation must be neat, clear, titled, colourful and visible to the whole class.
Each visual presentation must be accompanied by a brief oral explanation (10 minutes). The presenters must be well prepared to answer questions from other students.
