Overview

This set of short activities for intermediate and senior students is based on summary tables available in the Summary tables section of Statistics Canada's website. The activities can be conducted as paper-based assignments or as assignments to develop basic keyboarding or Internet navigation skills. Students retrieve statistical tables, then answer several questions.

Classroom instructions

These assignments can be completed in three ways:

  1. Paper and pencil assignment: Distribute a worksheet and a copy of the related table to the class.
  2. Telecommunications assignment: Students access www.statcan.ca and locate appropriate tables to answer assigned questions.
  3. Keyboarding assignment: Students locate and download the correct statistical table, then answer questions using an appropriate software program.
