Integrating databases and new technology in the senior history education curriculum

Overview/Abstract

This assignment introduces post-degree Bachelor of Education students (education students) to the use of databases in the teaching of history and social sciences at the upper high school level. Students working in pairs or groups of three review one resource and develop a lesson or package of lessons for a senior level history or social science course using the selected database resource. The prime resource used was E-STAT, available on the Internet site /. In one year we also used the CD-ROM from the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples (RCAP). This was a required assignment for several years and worth approximately 15% of the total mark for the course, PED 4183, "Teaching history and social sciences at the senior division".
