Less than one-half of Canadian workers who had a low-paying job in 1996 had managed to climb out of it by 2001, according to a study profiling individuals who experienced upward mobility.    more >>

SPOTLIGHT: Minority language schools

This week’s Spotlight is on the reading achievement of 15-year-old students in minority language schools. A new report shows that the average reading performance for students in French school systems in four provinces – Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Ontario and Manitoba – was significantly lower than students in English language school systems. A separate study examined the performance of students in French immersion programs.    more >>
