The evolving workplace series, no. 1
This report is
the first of this series and presents an overview of the results of the 1999 round
of the WES on the role that human resource practices play in facilitating workplace
change. It focuses on practices such as: workplace training, variable pay and
employee involvement (job rotation, cross-training and teamwork), their association
with change and whom they impact. These practices are linked to a skilled and
motivated workforce and play an important role in helping workers adjust to workplace
change.
The WES is a dual employer-employee survey on workplace issues
such as training, work arrangements, the nature of employment, labour turnover,
work-family balance and organisational change. The survey will follow workplaces
for at least four years and employees for two years. This longitudinal aspect
will allow researchers to study business dynamics from the point of view of both
employers and employees over time.
